OSCAR HORTON OF SUN STATE INTERNATIONAL TRUCKS NAMED 2020 ATD TRUCK DEALER OF THE YEAR

LISLE, Ill. (February 25, 2020) – Last week, Oscar Horton of Sun State International in Tampa, Fla. was named the 2020 American Truck Dealer’s (ATD) truck dealer of the year.

The award, which is given out annually at the ATD show, recognizes truck dealers who have excelled in dealership management, community impact and service to the industry.

“It is an honor to be given this award and receive such recognition from my peers,” said Horton. “It truly takes a team to achieve something like this, and there are so many people that I am incredibly thankful for that helped make this a reality. I look forward to continuing to dedicate my time to both the success of my community and my dealerships.”

Horton initially purchased International’s Tampa and Sarasota dealerships in 1999, which were at the time company owned. Over the years, he has grown Sun State International into six locations throughout Florida’s west coast, offering the full lineup of International® trucks as well as IC Bus® vehicles.

Beyond running his dealerships, Horton dedicates a large portion of his time to the local community. He is Chairman of Academy Prep, a school in Tampa for underprivileged youth in Florida and a trustee at the University of South Florida.

Before starting his own dealership, Horton spent over 20 years at Navistar, Inc., which at the time he joined was named International Harvester. He held various roles of increased responsibility before being named Vice President and General Manager of the company’s Foundry Business in 1995.

“We are extremely proud of Oscar and everything he has done for not only International Truck and his dealership, but his community as well,” said Mark Belisle, vice president, Distribution, Navistar. “Oscar is truly deserving of this recognition, as Sun State embodies what International Truck is all about.”
