Navistar Mexico Invests $120 Million in Escobedo Assembly Plant
EVP, Operations Michael Grahe and Governor of Nuevo León announce investment in the Navistar Escobedo Assembly Plant

Mexico City, February 3, 2023 - Navistar México, a leading corporation in products, technologies, and services for the auto-transport sector, will be investing more than US $120 million over the next three years to expand its cabin painting area at the Navistar Escobedo Assembly Plant in Nuevo León, Mexico.

“This investment will accelerate Navistar’s progress to meet anticipated customer needs and market demands, while also providing the opportunity to increase quality and sustainability efforts at the Navistar Escobedo Assembly Plant,” said Michael Grahe, executive vice president, Operations.

With this expansion, the productive capacity of the plant will increase to gradually satisfy the demand of the export and domestic markets. Simultaneously, with this investment the use of energy, water and gas will be considerably reduced, we expect by as much as 10%. Also, with the new technologies that will be implemented, it will be possible to carry out processes that reduce waste and increase environmental sustainability efforts.

“The investment Navistar is making is a sign of the company’s long-term commitment to Nuevo León and México as it continues to expand its operation here,” said Bernardo Valenzuela, president of Navistar Mexico and Export.

The Escobedo Assembly Plant is the largest Navistar plant in the world. Since its opening in 1998, it has produced more than 850,000 commercial vehicles. It is also home of the revolutionary International® eMV™ Series, the only 100% battery electric (BEV) truck in Mexico.

With an extension of more than 110 acres, the production capacity of the Escobedo Assembly Plant is 67,000 units per year, which are mainly exported to the United States and Canada. Throughout more than two decades and prior to this announcement, this productive unit has received investments for an amount of USD $462 million.

It provides direct employment to almost 6,200 people and indirectly to 3,000 more. It was the first plant in Mexico to have ISO 45001 certification, the international standard for occupational health and safety management systems. In addition, it has national and international certifications such as ISO 9001 (quality), 14001 (environment), as well as PASST Safe Company and Clean Industry, among many others.
