IC Bus Plant in Tulsa Reaches Production Milestone; Builds Record Number of Buses for Fiscal 2009
Record-breaking 10,773rd Bus Rolls Off the Production Line

TULSA, Okla., (Oct. 15, 2009) – The IC Bus™ Tulsa bus plant will reach a new production milestone on Friday, when they build the 10,773rd bus for the company’s fiscal 2009. The facility built 10,772 as recently as 2006 and is on schedule to finish the year having built more than 11,300 buses.

“This is a tremendous achievement for our Tulsa employees,” said John McKinney, president, IC Bus. “Day-in and day-out, we have a dedicated team of hardworking bus builders that go beyond the bus in building some of the safest and most dependable vehicles on the road.”

On Friday morning, Oct. 16, the plant will hold an informal gathering of its employees and mark the moment that the milestone IC Bus CE Series bus starts the line.

“When that bus begins production, we will all be reminded that through our winning team, strong products and the industry’s best dealer network, we can be successful,” added McKinney. “We go beyond the bus in our efforts to support our customers and our record-setting results are proof that our customers recognize the IC Bus difference.”

Since the plant opened in 2001 and through the end of the company’s fiscal year at the end of this month, the Tulsa Bus Plant will have built more than 73,000 buses. While some of the vehicles built at the Tulsa facility are commercial buses, the majority are school buses, helping safely transport children across the country to and from school throughout the year.

Environmental Benefits
This year’s high volume of production provides an environmental benefit as well. According to the American School Bus Council (www.americanschoolbuscouncil.org), every school bus helps take 36 cars off the road, saving more than 3 billion gallons of fuel each year. From that data, the buses at built at Tulsa this year alone will help take more than 400,000 passenger cars off the road, saving more than 71 million gallons of fuel per year.

Another Major Milestone
The nearly 1,000 employees at the Tulsa plant celebrated an even more critical milestone earlier in 2009, reaching more than 1 million hours without a lost-time injury case. Over the last several years, the plant and employees have improved their safety culture, leadership and commitment to prevent accidents and injuries.

“We all work together to help keep each other safe,” said Grant Pick, Tulsa plant manager. “Each of us takes responsibility to build the safest, highest quality buses in the industry. And, with our safety picture, that same spirit of responsibility extends to one another, our families and our co-workers.”
